Soil Erosion Prevention

As we are at the beginning of new season, creating prevention measures against soil erosion is important particularly for areas with highest risk such as high altitudes.

Soil erosion is a global problem as it causes land to become unsuitable for Agriculture.

Some effects of soil erosion:

  1. Loss of soil fertility: The topsoil is the most productive part with organic matter and if it is removed, it results in lower yields and higher production cost.
  2. Soil compaction: The compaction reduces the ability of water to infiltrate otherwise used for crop growth
  3. Loss of young planted crops.
  4. There is a higher chance of increased soil acidity which impact the crops to grow.

Proposed solution to soil erosion

The most great solution to soil erosion is to make contour terraces and digging trenches for high risk agricultural lands to lessen the quantity and speed of water moving across the soil surface.

Trenches increase rainfall harvesting to reduce the speed of water runoff.
